St. Regis Mohawk School forms Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)

Parents and staff of the St. Regis Mohawk School created a parent-teacher organization on January 21, 2009. The eager group of parents and teachers met in the Salmon River Elementary library to discuss goals and objectives of the newly formed group.

The purpose of the St. Regis Mohawk School PTO is to enhance the partnership between the school and its families. One important piece of this partnership is increasing parent involvement in school. We know that parents want to be involved with their children and through PTO sponsored activities, parents will have increased opportunities to volunteer and participate in many different capacities, all toward the goal of improving family, school, and community.

Elections were held at the February 11 meeting. The following people were elected officers of the St. Regis Mohawk PTO:

President: Ellen Cook

Vice-President: Maggie Bay

Treasurer: Shelby Bero

Secretary: Jill Benedict

The St. Regis Mohawk School PTO will sponsor no cost/low cost activities at the school to benefit the family. Here’s a glimpse at some of the activities planned for the remainder of this academic year:

March 19: Family Fun Night, Healthier Pizza preparation and tasting with Vanetta Conn, Cornell University Cooperative Extension Franklin County, 5:00-6:30 pm, SRC Junior High Home & Careers room

April 8: PTO general meeting, 5:00-600 pm, SRC Elementary library

April 23: Family Fun Night, 5:00-6:30 pm, Fun with Gardening with Bruce Bonesteel, location TBA

May 5: Teacher Appreciation Day

May 13: PTO general meeting, 5:00-6:00 pm, SRC Elementary library

May 28: Family Fun Night, 6:00-7:30 pm, Guest author and musician Joseph Bruchac performance and book signing, SRC auditorium

June 10: PTO general meeting, 5:00-6:00 pm, SRC Elementary library

June 19: Parent Education Night, 6:00-7:30 pm, Internet Safety with Virginia Bond, SRC elementary computer lab,
