A Voice from the Eastern Door
A fundraiser for the Salmon River Central Boys and Girls JV, Varsity and Traveling teams was held on Friday, Feb. 27. The AND1 Streetball Tour Team played against the Akwesasne All-Stars at the Salmon River Central High School Gym. The AND1 Team is featured on ESPN and a few of the players are featured in movies and commercials. “Hot Sauce” is one of the more well known players and is in a Mountain Dew commercial regularly aired on TV. Others players were High Rizer, Spyda, High Octane, Circus, and Showtime.
This team promotes a positive outlook on life and speaks to the youth about remaining drug/alcohol free, violence/gang free and working hard in school and sports. There were well over 600 people in attendance and everyone was very entertained by the slam dunking, fast dribbling and just being in the presence of such great players. The concept of the evening was to get people excited about basketball.
The Salmon River Central Basketball program would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the following sponsors: CKON, SRCS Elementary PTO, Tarbell Management Group, Akwesasne Petroleum Co-op, St. Regis Mohawk Tribe, and Jacobs Excavation. A special note of gratitude also goes out to the Salmon River Central School Board for providing the venue and supervision as well as the administrative staff, Kevin Wallbridge and John Simons as well as the Custodial Staff. Also, thank you to Kevin Wallbridge and Dale Warner for officiating the game. The SRCS Coaching Staff including Joe Binion, Shawn Martin, Karen Francis, Jocelyn Kelly, Tom Smith and Pete Ghostlaw did an excellent job facilitating this event. A special note of thanks goes out to the parent volunteers who helped out with the concession stand. It was a huge success due to the collaborative efforts of all those involved.
