Cecelia “Goma” Johnson

Mrs. Cecelia “Goma” Johnson, age 73, of Johnson Street, St. Regis, Quebec, died Saturday evening (February 28, 2009) at her home.  She was transferred to Cornwall Community Hospital, McConnell Site, where she was pronounced dead.  She had recently been in failing health.

She was born August 20, 1935 on Cornwall Island, Ontario the daughter of Peter and Louise Foote Johnson.  She attended St. Regis Mohawk School.  She married Peter Harlow Homer, who predeceased her on February 18, 1976.

She once worked at the Bombay Slipper Factory, Billy’s Bingo Palace, and at the Pines Inn in Hogansburg.  She was a communicant of St. Regis Catholic Church.  Her greatest passion and enjoyment was bingo.  She also enjoyed bowling, where she bowled every Tuesday in a league in Massena. She was an avid and loyal Yankees fan.  She also enjoyed being an Elvis fan and enjoyed collecting elephants.  She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.  She also enjoyed riding around the neighborhood on her 3 wheeled bike.

She is survived by her 4 children, Harlow and Rhonda Johnson, Joseph Johnson, Virginia Johnson, Julie Johnson, all of St. Regis, Quebec; by 14 grandchildren, Dave, Wayne, Tiffany, Shyenne, Jon-Mike, Tyler James, Mariah, Alexander, Victoria, Tiarraray, Azaria, Hunter, Tyra, and Shayna; by 2 great grandchildren, Kahetahawi and Justin; by 1 sister, Katherine Gushlaw Rowe and her husband, Don Rowe, Syracuse; by 1 brother, Joseph Johnson and his wife, Marie, St. Regis, Quebec; and by many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by 2 sisters, Rita M. Johnson and Mary Johnson and 6 brothers, Frank, Louie, Richard, Silas, William, and Mitchell Johnson.

Friends called at her home on Johnson Street beginning Monday until a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated Wednesday March 4, 2009 at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. George H. Belgarde, officiating.  Spring burial will be in Kateri Cemetery, Hogansburg.

Arrangements are with the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena.
