Drugs, AK-47 seized, one arrest made
On Thursday, Feb. 19 at approximately 6:30 AM, the St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Police conducted a search warrant in collaboration with Drug Enforcement Agency agents at the home of Michael Cook, 62 Cook Farm Lane, Akwesasne. Seized from the residence were approximately 50 lbs of marijuana, an AK-47 assault rifle, several vehicles, including a truck, car, SUV, snowmobiles, trailer, several pieces of furniture and some personal items deemed to be purchased with proceeds of criminal activity.
“We will continue to enforce the law here in Akwesasne,” stated Tribal Police Chief Andrew Thomas. “Our cooperative relationships with other police agencies have been instrumental in our success in combating the drug trade.”
Mr. Cook was arrested, taken into custody and will be charged with Conspiracy to Possess and Distribute over 1,000 kilograms of Marijuana. He will be arraigned later this week by the U.S. Magistrate in Albany, New York on Federal charges.
