A heartfelt Niawen/Thank you to everyone who helped out and supported the Snowflake Garage Sale held on Friday, Feb. 13th as part of the 18th Annual Winter Carnival Events. The Benefit was held for Madisen Mitchell and her family as they prepare for stem-cell surgery for Madisen.

Many individuals helped out, especially Vicky Phillips, Liz Sunday, Linda Sunday, Mary Lou Phillips, Mamie David, Faith Graffis, Charity (Brad) Lazore, Jason and Alexandra David, Mitchell Terrance, and Jackie Cree-Arquette. Akwesasne has generous people as witnessed by the outpouring of support for the garage sale. Thank you to those who donated time and or items for the sale and to those who bought items from the sale and made generous donations of money for the Mitchell family.

A spaghetti lunch was also held on that day and I thank all the ladies in the kitchen (Elaine, Sam and Courtney) for the wonderful lunch they provided to the community and the workers.

A whopping $2,274.48 was raised for the garage sale with another $1072.00 raised in the kitchen for the lunch for a spectacular total of $3,346.48. From Vancouver, BC, came a promise to help raise more money so my wonderful brother, Harold Tarbell, is sending a cheque for $1653.52 to bring the total raised to a well rounded amount of $5,000.00!!!

Akwesasronon…you did a terrific job in helping out Madisen and her parents, Kelly and Theresa.

I am proud to have been a part of this heartwarming activity.

Emily Tarbell, Event Coordinator for the Winter Carnival
