Search for new GM begins
General Manager Dianna Tarbell has announced that she plans to resign her position at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino.
“With each phase of expansion, the demands of the job have also increased,” she stated. “The demands of this job are more than my family responsibilities allow at this time.”
Ten years earlier, Tarbell was among the first to be hired for the casino and was promoted nine times before becoming General Manager in 2002. She is the casino’s sixth general manager and the first female to hold the position.
“I’m very proud of what this team has accomplished,” she said. “When the casino first opened, we didn’t have electricity or water service and we had cardboard cut-outs of slot machines that said ‘Coming Soon’. To see it develop over the years into the entertainment venue it is now has been the most rewarding experience of my career.”
Under Tarbell’s management, the casino has been very successful as evidenced by its recent expansion. Currently the casino operates over 1,500 slot machines, 25 table games, and three restaurants. Last year, the casino welcomed over 1 million guests.
Tarbell is a member of the committee spearheading the recruitment and selection of a new general manager and expects a smooth transition.
“The Akwesasne Mohawk Casino has a lot going on in 2009 and we cannot afford to have any distractions from our main goal – to provide exciting entertainment for our guests. We expect the position to be filled within a six-month time period and I plan on assisting the new general manager in making the transition,” she explained. “I remain committed to the community and I am extremely grateful for the opportunities I have received with the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino and the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe.”
“On behalf of the Tribal Council we congratulate Dianna for her hard work and the tremendous job she has done as the general manager,” said Tribal Chief Barbara Lazore. “We are proud of her and her accomplishments.”
