Trivia Night benefits Madisen Mitchell

With trivia contests rapidly increasing in popularity in Akwesasne, a benefit trivia night was held Friday evening at the Wolf Clan Restaurant and Banquet Hall. The event was organized by friends and family of Madisen Mitchell and her parents, Kelly and Theresa Mitchell.

Madisen and her family are raising funds to travel to the Caribbean for a unique stem cell procedure to treat Madisen’s cerebral palsy.

More than 30 teams of four participated in trivia night. Questions ranged from “Who has hosted Saturday Night Live the most times?” (Answer: Steve Martin) to “What are 1 in 2000 babies born with?” (Answer: A tooth.) As most trivia contests go, general knowledge of just about everything put teams ahead. Volunteers Danielle Oakes, Leonard Lazore, Wanda Thompson and Ramone O’Brien organize the trivia portion.

At the end of four rounds, two teams were tied for first place before the “final question” round. The final question was “In What State is the NFL Hall of Fame Located?” Both teams answered correctly and shared the title of trivia winners for the night. The answer: Ohio.

Raffles and a 50/50 were also held to raise additional money for the Mitchell family. Valene King was the 50/50 winner and she donated her winnings back to the family.

A Skunk Award, meant to be given to the lowest-scoring team, was awarded to The Easy Bakers.  Theresa Mitchell, Jackie Cree-Arquette, Lori Bova, and Akat Chubb. Teams were asked to dress up in theme and the judged awarded the Team Spirit Award to The Bees (Lud, Sylvia, Mona and Vicki).

One of the winning teams was made up of Shannon Lazore, Joe Raso, Karen Loran, and Guzzy Lazore. The other winning team was Randi Barreiro, Alice Tarbell, Jose Tarbell, and Jessica Tarbell.
