A Voice from the Eastern Door
Ironworkers with Local 440 celebrated the completion of steel work on the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino’s expansion project Tuesday.
The crew has been working on the casino’s northern expansion which will be used for a food court. The ironworkers have roof work and other siding left but they expect to finish up in a few weeks.
“They’re way, way ahead of schedule especially for this weather,” said Local 440 Business Manager Mike Swamp.
Swamp said that the casino has used Local 440 one hundred percent of the time for ironwork. They recently helped construct the Sprung structure as well, which opened last summer.
“It’s sort of an agreement we had with the past chiefs that this thing is going to be built with local ironworkers,” Swamp said. “The ironworkers here want the chance to show their skills in their own home.”
