A Voice from the Eastern Door
Dear Students:
You are invited to apply for a free outdoor trip to the Adirondacks Ecological Center on February 19-22, 2009, sponsored by the Haudenosaunee Environmental Task Force. We are inviting any Haudenosaunee students currently in grades 10-12. Priority will go to those students that have attended the summer and fall Adirondack High Peaks Experience 2008. If there is room available, then we will accept other students. There is room for only 10-12 students so apply early. The deadline for application is January 31, 2009.
The trip is free. The newly formed Haudenosaunee Youth Corps (HEYC) will provide some of the gear, but participants will provide their own gear as well. There will be snow shoeing, cross-country skiing, winter wildlife ecology and ice fishing, all dependent on the weather. The participants will be staying in bunk houses and cafeteria meals will be provided. Those students that are selected will be required to attend an information session in their community.
For Akwesasne Mohawk students interested in the HEYC Adirondacks High Peaks Winter Experience, they can pick up an application at the Mohawk Nation office or call 518-358-3381 or e-mail [email protected].
Niawen,
Haudenosaunee Environmental Task Force
