A Voice from the Eastern Door

Book: The Lucky One

Author: Nicholas Sparks

This week’s book is the newest release of well known author Nicholas Sparks. His stories are well known, he’s written the books to movies such as “The Notebook” and “A Walk to Remember”. I have become a huge fan of this author and his ability to turn the simplest of situations into something amazing.

About five years ago Logan Thibault was stationed in Iraq. He’s seen the harsh side of the marines. Having seen many a soldier whose lives have been claimed by the enemy, he has miraculously come out of it unharmed. According to his friend Victor, it’s because he has found himself a lucky charm. One day, while taking his morning jog, Logan finds a picture of a woman, smiling; on the back is a dedication, from “E”. Not knowing why, Logan keeps the picture. Victor believes that it has saved his life, because of a time when he followed Logan’s lead, which if he didn’t, he would have died. After their honorable discharge, Victor instructs Logan to find her, because he, in a way, owes her his life. So Logan treks across the country, from Colorado to North Carolina to find this woman. When he does find her, he has no idea what is in store. What is he supposed to do? What debt does he have to pay? Will he tell her about the picture? Or maybe find out who the picture was for?

This book not only kept my interest but it was a really good story about the power a simple thing has if you believe in it. It’s a very hard book to put down. I recommend it to anyone who loves a good story.
