Bronx man sent to prison over drug murder

A Bronx, NY man pleaded guilty last week in federal court, admitting to having robbed two Akwesasne women of a duffel bag of marijuana and later murdering his accomplice.

According to a press release from the U.S. District Attorney’s office, Roger K. Aletras, 37,(aka Roger Knox) will serve a 15-year term in prison for the murder, added onto a 17-year sentenced he is already serving for a 2004 conviction that he was in possession of the murder weapon.

In 2002, Aletras and Kevin Arkenau had reportedly robbed the two Akwesasne women at a South Burlington, VT hotel. The men then drove to Saratoga Springs, NY and checked into a hotel. The following day a hotel employee discovered Arkenau’s dead body. He had been shot execution style while sleeping.

The U.S. District Attorney did not name the Akwesasne women involved in the incident but said both were later convicted on drug-related charges.

Aletras avoided the death penalty by pleading guilty, as his crimes were federal.
