A Voice from the Eastern Door
On Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, students at Kana:takon School participated in a fundraiser for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
The students in K4 and K5 were involved in the Jump Rope for Heart Campaign, and the Grade 7 and 8 students participated in the Hoops for Heart Campaign. A total of $2,628.75 was raised for heart and stroke research.
The following students were the top fundraisers in each of their classrooms: K4—Lila Mitchell $200.00, K5—Jasmine Herne $350.00, Grade 7—Mary Jacobs $516.00, and Grade 8—Janisa Benedict $84.50. The Jump Rope for Heart raised a total of $1560.00, and the Hoops for Heart raised $1068.50.
Students in Grades 7 and 8 were divided into their squads and played single elimination games of basketball for 15 minute periods. The overall winner then played the Kana:takon School Staff Team. This was a hard fought game on behalf of both teams. The winner of the Hoops for Heart Tournament was the Kana:takon School Staff Team. Students in the K4 and K5 participated in different stations: Coloring, Skipping on Your Own, Skipping in Teams and Mini-Relay with Hula Hoops and Skip It Rope.
