A Voice from the Eastern Door
On Nov. 18 the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service came to the Ahkwesahsne Mohawk School to make a presentation on Cyber Bullying. Sergeant Bill LaFrance and Constable Leanne O’Brien spoke to the grade 3 to 6 students on the Do’s and Don’ts of MySpace, Facebook, MSN chat rooms and online X-Box 360 live chat games.
The students and staff appreciated the information they were given and left feeling just a bit safer.
On Nov. 20, the Akwesasne Child and Family Services came into A.M.S. to do a presentation on bullying in the classroom. Service Youth Worker, Danielle Oakes-Jacobs was the presenter. Danielle did a wonderful job using her Magic Coloring Book of Feelings, which amazed and informed the students.
The A.M.S. students and staff would like to give a BIG Niawen:kowa to AMPS and to ACFS in helping A.M.S. become more aware of bullying and teaching preventive strategies to use at school and on the computer.
Anti Bullying Poster Contest
As part of the Anti Bullying program, a t-shirt poster slogan contest was held to reinforce the message the students received about bullying. The winners of the contest were selected by their peers on the A.M.S. Student Council. The prize for being selected was the choice of a board game.
Congratulations to: Niiostoseraah Thompson, Tewennine Delormier, Falan Francis, Sarah Lafrance, Teiowisontakie Oakes and Brooklynn Oakes Benedict.
