Two individuals face federal drug charges after authorities allegedly seized $1.74 million in Ecstasy pills from one of two vehicles involved.
Benoit Goyette, 39 of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Quebec is said to have rented a vehicle and crossed into the United States at the Fort Covington Port of Entry on Nov. 11. He then drove to the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino where he briefly met with Daylan Adams, 25 of Cook Road, Akwesasne.
The two men allegedly drove into Snye for an unknown amount of time and emerged in two vehicles and with a third person. U.S. Customs alerted Border Patrol Agents who stopped the vehicles on Route 37 in Fort Covington.
With the use of a police dog, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency seized the Ecstasy pills from the trunk of Goyette’s rented vehicle. Each pill is believed to have a street value of $30. A total of 42 lbs. of the drug was seized.
Both men were charged with importing a controlled substance and were arraigned in federal court Wednesday. Authorities have not released information on the third individual. However, the investigation is continuing and charges are pending.
