Potsdam Women’s Hockey Defeats Oswego

(Oswego, NY)- Led by Brianna Roy’s two goals, the SUNY Potsdam women’s hockey team defeated Oswego 3-1 on Saturday night for their first win in ECAC West play.

The game was scoreless until Amanda King (Akwesasne/ Cornwall Typhoons) scored 1:45 into the second period on a power play with assists by Roy and Annmarie Lewis (Newmarket, ONT/ Aurora Panthers) to put Potsdam ahead. Lewis found Roy (Orleans, ONT/ Nepean Wildcats) again for her first goal at 5:11 to increase Potsdam’s lead to 2-0.  Roy’s second goal of the game on an assist from Stephanie Malcolm (Hamilton, ONT/ Hamilton Hawks) and Brandi Atwell (Cornwall, ONT/ Cornwall Typhoons) came on another power play just 3:17 into the third period. Oswego (3-1, 1-1 ECAC West) got on the board at 11:31 to cut into Potsdam’s lead but did not threaten again.

Hillary Hitchman (Potsdam/Oswego State) made 34 saves in goal for the Bears. Erin Robson had 27 saves for the Lakers.

This was the third time this week that the two teams have gone against each other. Besides playing Friday night (Oswego won 1-0), both teams met last Sunday in the championship game of the inaugural Rutland Herald Women’s Ice Hockey Tournament hosted by Castleton College. Oswego won the game 2-1.

The Bears (2-3, 1-1 ECAC West)) will continue road play with a game against Utica College next Saturday (11/15) at 4 pm.
