A Voice from the Eastern Door
On Friday, Nov. 7, Kana:takon School held their Monthly Awards Assembly. Students were recognized for their attendance and illustration of our Character Trait for the Month.
Students with Perfect Attendance for the Month of October were K4-Joseph Benedict, Raiden Bush- Garrow, Kyden Jacobs, Lila Mitchell, Samaira Thomas; K5-Cherish Hall, Sabre Hemlock, Jasmine Herne, Kayden Jacobs, Sky Phillips; 7A-Tenisha Caldwell, Dayna Green, Tristyn Jock-Cole, Paige Lafrance, Jade Martin, Starlyn Mason; 7B-Kahonwine Adams, Serena Boots, Breanne Caldwell, Andrew Helmer, Mackenzie Oakes, Dalton Roundpoint; 8A-Janisa Benedict, Wishe Green, Kyler Thomas, Jordan Thompson; 8B-Michael Hill and Brendan Jacobs-Thompson. All of these students received a certificate and Perfect Attendance Pin. They will be treated to Bowling in Cornwall.
Grade 7 B were able to capture the Highest Attendance Rate for all of Kana:takon School. For the month of October their attendance rate was 95%. They were awarded the Attendance Trophy and have chosen to have a free afternoon, to have a Wii Tournament. They were also the first class to spell out “AKWEKON KEN IAKWES”. The Ahkwesahsne Mohawk Board of Education treated the class to a Pizza Party.
October’s Character Trait at Kana:takon School was Empathy. Our Book of the Month that was read by all was “Don’t Laugh At Me.” Students of the Month were chosen based on this character trait. They are true friends, include everyone in conversations and activities and find things in common with other students. The following students were chosen as Student of the Month for October—K4: Lila Mitchell, K5: Jasmine Herne, 7A:Starlyn Mason, 7B: Mackenzie Oakes, 8A: Albert Terrance, and 8B: Michael Hill. This month Akwesasne Sports sponsored our students of the month. Doreen Mitchell and Rhonda Mitchell were on hand to give each student their bag of goodies and framed certificate. All students received a $20.00 gift certificate from Akwesasne Sports, a Cornwall Colts Ticket courtesy of CKON and many other items from student council. Nia:wen to Akwesasne Sports and CKON.
