A 25-year-old Akwesasne man has been convicted of sexual assault following an incident nearly two years ago.
On Dec. 8, 2006, the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service responded to a call of a female who had been sexually assaulted on Cornwall Island. During the course of their investigation, two males were arrested.
On Oct. 24, 2008, Christopher Abraham Jocko of Cornwall Island was found guilty of the following charges: Utter a Threat, Assault, Sexual Assault, Forcible Confinement, and Fail to Comply, all contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
Jocko will be sentenced on Dec. 19, 2008 at the Cornwall Provincial Courthouse. Akwesasne Mohawk Police sought Extradition for the second male charged in this incident since he resides in the United States. He cannot be named as a result of a Publication Ban since his matter is still before the Courts.
