LAX lovers compete in field tournament at new Generations Park

Seven lacrosse teams battled it out over the weekend for possession of the first Confederacy Cup. The 2-day field lacrosse tournament was created this year to benefit and promote a new lacrosse club, the Kanienkehaka Krunch.

Following a round-robin format tournament, the Cup was awarded to the Warriors, who also walked away with a $1500 prize.

In second place were the Hurricanes, and the MVP award was presented to Ian Mitchell. Other teams participating were the Indians, Muskies, Thunderbirds, Mohawk Rock and Big Boys.

The tournament was open to all ages and players as young as age 14 took to the field with professional players from the National Lacrosse League.

The inaugural tournament of the Kanienkehaka Krunch was also the first tournament to be held at the new Generations Park. The field, pavilion, playground and restrooms were built this year by the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe.

The Kaninekehaka Krunch was formed this year and the club league is open to players from age 10-18. The club uses Generations Park for practice, and will travel throughout the Northeast to compete in tournaments. The club has three levels: modified, junior varsity and varsity.

The organizers of the tournament would like to thank all those who helped this past weekend with the success of the Confederacy Cup 2008.

“Many, many thanks to the St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Chiefs and the great assistance from the maintenance department, tournament organizers, parents, spectators and volunteers who were all a huge part of this weekend’s success,” said Shari Adams, manager for the Kanienkehaka Krunch.
