American Legion Post 1479 holds annual dinner

The American Legion Post 1479 held an Early Bird Dinner Saturday evening.

The event, which is held annually, serves a number of purposes. First, it is a time for members to remember Prisoners of War and soldiers who are Missing In Action. A special place setting is made to represent those individuals.

Second, it is an opportunity for the Legion to thank those members who have paid their annual dues.

Third, new officers are sworn in before a large gathering of their fellow members. The recently voted in officers are:

Commander – Kim Ransom-Herne

1st Vice – Wally Jacobs

2nd Vice – Arnold Jock

3rd Vice – Dennis Hartford

4th Adjutant – Doris Burns

Treasurer – Norman Tarbell

Sgt. At Arms – Gordon Ransom and Peter Sunday

Chaplain – Peter Sunday

Finally, the event gives Post 1479 an opportunity to pay special tribute or acknowledgement to certain members. On Saturday, Peter Back was recognized for being a member for 50 years. Additionally, those members who have paid their dues “up for life” were also recognized.

A multi-course meal was served for all those attending, prepared by Janet Tatro.
