A Voice from the Eastern Door
Two Akwesasne teens were arrested last week after border patrol agents in the town of Hammond stopped their vehicle and subsequently discovered approximately 20 lbs. of marijuana.
Aaron V. Adams, 17 of Akwesasne, Quebec, and Kelly Tarbell, 18 of Akwesasne, New York were traveling on Route 37 through Hammond. Authorities did not reveal what caused the border patrol agents to pull the teens over, but during the stop a police dog was allegedly brought to the vehicle and indicated to police that drugs were inside.
Adams and Tarbell were both charged with first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and arraigned in Hammond Town Court before being taken to the St. Lawrence County jail. Neither was immediately able to post $2500 bail.
Police said the drugs seized have a street value of about $60,000. The teens are expected to reappear in court on Oct. 2.
