Senior A Indians win one last home game but season ends for them in Peterborough

The St. Regis Indians are retired for the 2008 season. After winning their last home game on Saturday night, the team went to Peterborough down 3-1 in the seven game series and lost 11-6.

Despite a team packed with the talent from players like John Tavares, Mark Steenhuis, Kevin Dostie, Andrew Lazore, Brandon Francis, Brandon Swamp, and Mike Thompson, the team’s path to a Mann Cup came to an end Monday night.

The Peterborough Lakers – Major Series Lacrosse’s second place team - will now face the number one team – the Brampton Excelsiors, in the league final.

The Indians’ last home game at the A’nowara’ko:wa Arena was action packed, with a final score of 10-9. Indians goal scorers were Kevin Dostie with two, Mark Steenhuis with two, John Tavares with two, and Brett Bucktooth, Mike Accursi, Kyle Schmelze and Pat Maddelenna with one each. Assists went to John Tavares with four, and Brett Bucktooth Pat Maddalena, Andrew Lazore, Rob Van Beek, Rich Kilgour, Mark Steenhuis and Kevin Dostie had one assist each.

In the team’s final game, the six Indians goals were made by Mark Steenhuis with three and one each from Andrew Lazore, Mike Accursi, and Rich Kilgour. John Tavares made five assists and Mike Accursi, Pat Maddalena, Andrew Lazore and Brett Bucktooth assisted one time each. Goalie Mike Thompson was credited with 32 saves.
