Cornwall Minor Softball Playoffs

July 27, 2008

The Cornwall Minor Softball Playoff Tournament was held this weekend at Optomist Park. The Pee Wee age group (10-12 yrs.) consisted of three teams, the Filion Awards Red, Blue and Grey Teams. The Grey Team included two members from Akwesasne: Johl Benedict of Tsisnaihne and Adam Oakes of Kawehnoke.

With Johl and Adam’s help the Grey Team finished their season in first place with 15 wins and 1 tie. On Saturday morning the season’s 2nd and 3rd place teams played for a spot in the championship game against the Grey Team, with the Blue Team edging out the Red Team in a close game.

Due to the weather Saturday afternoon the championship game was rescheduled to Sunday morning. The Blue and Grey teams played against each other in the last game of the season on Friday night. It was a great end to the season with the Blue Team giving the Grey Team a real run for their money with only 7 players, but the Grey Team was able to squeak by and win by one run. We knew we were in for good game when we found out we were up against the Blue Team again for the Championship. The Blue team came on strong and were ahead in the first two innings, but the Grey Team tied it up by the end of the fourth inning. The Grey Team was able to pull ahead and play good defence to hold off the Blue Team for the win.
