A Voice from the Eastern Door

Drinking and Driving

My name is Sarahlee Skidders. I was just like every other high school student enjoying life. I was active in the community; I worked hard in school, played sports and enjoyed hanging out with my friends.

Until the summer of 2007 when my life changed forever because of my choice to drink and drive.

The simple things in my life such as showering, going to the bathroom and getting dressed are now a daily challenge. It has been very difficult going from a carefree spirit to someone who needs to rely on others to get through a regular day.

My accident not only affected my life but also had a huge impact on the lives of my family and friends.

My mother’s schedule now revolves around helping me and not to mention the financial burdens of medical bills, reconstruction of our home, transportation issues and necessities of daily medical care.

My friendships have also changed immensely. Majority of my friends still feel uncomfortable to be around me and yet others have become closer.

July 22 will be my one year anniversary of my accident. I know it’s graduation time. If you do choose to party please make the right choice to not Drink and Drive.

Your friend Sarahlee
