Second arrest made in Stockholm murder investigation

Search warrants executed at two Akwesasne homes

Police arrested an Akwesasne man Monday and charged him with 1st degree robbery in connection to the unsolved Stockholm, New York murder of May 13, 2008.

Kaientanoron Swamp, 27, was arrested at his mother’s Route 37 home, police said. He was arraigned in Stockholm Town Court and ordered held without bail.

Swamp is accused of robbing Daniel Simonds, 31 of Stockholm. According to authorities, Swamp and at least one other man, Brian Latulipe, also 27 of Bombay, New York, attended Simonds home and allegedly beat and shot him. Latulipe was arrested last month and also charged with robbery-related offenses.

Police have not said if either Swamp or Latulipe will face murder charges. St. Lawrence County Sheriff Kevin Wells said that decision ultimately rests in the hands of the District Attorney’s Office.

On Tuesday, July 15, police from numerous agencies served search warrants at two homes in Raquette Point, Akwesasne in connection with the murder, police on site said. The multimillion dollar compound of Al Jacobs was swarming with officers, while a small house around the corner was also searched. Although the person of interest at the second house wasn’t there at the time, other individuals were. They included several children who waited outside while police searched for evidence inside.

Sheriff Wells said that Jacobs was also arrested this weekend for charges unrelated to the murder.

“I believe he’s being held for a violation of some sort,” Sheriff Wells said.

Although police would not say if Jacobs was involved in the robbery and murder, the search of his home was performed as part of the murder investigation, Sheriff Wells said. The search warrant was ordered through Bombay Town Court.
