A Voice from the Eastern Door
Jeff Marshall of Fort Covington, NY has got it all together in 2008; make no mistake about it as he picked up his third victory of the season by winning the 2nd running of the Big Boys Enterprises 25 at Mohawk International Raceway this past Saturday night in the Coors Light DIRTcar 358 Modified Division.
Bill Cook and Casey Swamp started on the front row of the event with Swamp getting the early lead. Swamp staged a great two car battle with Jeff Marshall for the first nine laps of the event and held off Marshall until lap #10 when the caution came out for the #70B of Josh Brockway who had slowed on the backstretch.
When the green flag was displayed again, Marshall wasted no time getting to the front first with Carey Terrance, who started 8th on the grid, right on Marshall’s back bumper followed by Mitchell Jock, Perry Francis and Casey Swamp. Terrance stayed close to Marshall throughout the race but Jeff seemed to have the edge when it came to getting through the turns. On the last lap, Marshall was able to get by one of the slower cars on the speedway and now had a lapped car between him and Terrance for the top spot. Terrance could not find a way around the slower car quick enough and that was the edge that Marshall needed to win and take his third trip of the season to the Mohawk Bingo Palace Victory Lane. Carey Terrance settled for second with Mitchell Jock, Perry Francis and Casey Swamp rounding out the top five.
In the Action Race Parts UMP/DIRT Pro Stocks, it was Jody Swamp of Akwesasne picking up his second win of the season but not before he had to fend off a tough Allen Peters in the process.
Swamp and Dave Papineau started up front with Swamp getting the early lead followed closely by Papineau, Junior Barnes, Stephane Lebrun and Allen Peters. Back in the pack, Ricky Thompson came storming up through and by lap #6, found himself sitting second and challenging Swamp for the top spot. The two cars battled hard for the top spot through lap #15 when Allen Peters, who just caught the leaders, came in contact with the #37W of Thompson with the end results being a spin out by Thompson coming off turn #4. This put Peters right on the back bumper of Swamp for the top spot. For the last five laps, Swamp had all he could do to hold off Peters for the top spot but managed to do so and take the win. Allen Peters finished second with Dion Oakes, David Papineau and Ricky Thompson rounding out the top five.
In the Pecore Performance and Transmissions Semi Pros, it was Mike Allen coming home the winner in convincing style and making his second appearance of the season in the Mohawk Bingo Palace Victory Lane. Kevin Fetterly, Jr. held off Stuart Mossow for second with Mossow finishing third. Jerry Jock and Jay Montour rounded out the top five.
In the Helm’s Salvage and Trucking Bandits, Eli Gilbert finally found his way to victory lane and got the monkey off his back. Gilbert who started fifth on the grid grabbed the lead on lap #4 and then held off a hard charging Claudia Tarbell right at the end for the win. Tarbell finished second with Cole Cree, Scott Mere and Henry Lamica rounding out the top five.
In the Bash Brothers Motorsports Enduro, it was Wayne Jock taking the lead from early race leader Joey Jock on lap #6 and never looked back the rest of the way. Todd Marlow finished second with Konkie Lazore, Aaron Carter and Ray Gagnon rounding out the top five.
Next Saturday night July 12th, it will be Pecore Performance and Transmissions / Leahy Motorsports night at the speedway. At the intermission, there will be a Semi Pro Autograph session where the fans will be able to go trackside once again and take pictures and get autographs from their favorite drivers. The main event of the evening will feature the Coors Light DIRTcar 358 Modifieds in the 3rd running of the Pecore Performance and Transmission / Leahy Motorsports 25 with $1000.00 going to the winner.
