Akwesasne, NY. The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe and its gaming enterprises, in cooperation with the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police invite everyone to the fireworks display in celebration of Independence Day! This alcohol- and drug-free community event will take place on Friday, July 4, 2008 at the James B. Cook’s Camp Grounds on Cook Road just off State Route 37 on the U.S. portion of Akwesasne. The event will start at 10 p.m. sharp.
In the best interest of those attending, the Tribe will ensure safety and security by posting details of officers of the St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Police, the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Services and the New York State Police at various points in the community. Portions of Saint Regis waterway will be off-limits to boats and patrolled by the local, state, and national law enforcement agencies. Other agencies involved in this event will be the U.S. Board Patrol, the Hogansburg-Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department, NYS Department of Transportation and Akwesasne Mohawk Ambulance services.
The traffic on Cook Road will change to one-way northbound beginning at 9:00 p.m. and continue until the conclusion of the event. All southbound traffic (toward #9 Truckstop) on Cook Road will be rerouted through Tarbell Road.
Everyone is encouraged to arrive early and find parking in designated areas.
