(Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe – June 17, 2008) - The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Spokespersons have been mandated to call for a referendum on the question of the validity of the “traditional Three Chief form of government” and will conduct the referendum process that was set out and endorsed by the tribal members on May 31st 2008.

Accordingly, a referendum vote will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2008 from 9 am to 5 pm to decide the question of the validity of the “traditional Three Chief form of government”. The mandated referendum question is:

“Is the traditional Three Chief form of government valid” Yes [] No []”

Three public informational meetings regarding the referendum will take place in the conference room at the Wolf Clan Truckstop on Thursday, June 19th from 6 pm to 10 pm, Monday, June 23rd from 6 pm to 10 pm and Sunday, June 29th from 10 am to 2 pm at which time it is encouraged that all community members attend.

Choosing freedom and not the illusion of freedom is at some point in life a difficult choice, but when given true knowledge it becomes easier to participate in a positive movement instead of the “old ways” imposed upon us in the past, so come and participate, it is your future and those to come after us that we must protect today.

For more information, please contact Community Spokesperson Melvin White: (518) 358-3470.
