A Voice from the Eastern Door
The third annual HAVFD raffle was held on Father’s Day, June 15, 2008. The prizes for this years raffle were: A 2008 Custom Yamaha Rhino provided by Roberts Sports Center INC., a 42” Plasma TV and a $500.00 VISA gift card. Tickets were $10.00 each and the proceeds of the raffle go towards insurance costs for the department.
The Rhino was on display at various locations throughout the week with the most noticeable location right at the four corners where firefighter Derek Comins set up for the last couple days. Other times it was on display in front of the fire station by Issac McDonald and various members of the fire department. IGA allowed the Rhino to be displayed and tickets sold on Sunday’s.
On Sunday, a “He-Man” breakfast was served from 8:00 to 11:30 in the morning for the final push in ticket sales. The community turned out in force for some hearty portions of breakfast favorites such as pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, corned beef hash and biscuits with gravy.
Dick Laffin, Sherry Roundpoint, Monica “Frosty” Jacobs, Ron Lafrance, Pat Thomas, Bianca and the whole gang cooked up a storm all morning. During that time firefighters took the Rhino to the Bombay Field Day and set up there to give area residents a chance at winning a nice prize. Then the effort moved outside where firefighters sold tickets roadside right up to the drawing time of 3:00. CKON broadcast the drawing live after a slight delay due to scheduling priorities.
The drawing was done live on the air at 3:20 and the winners were drawn from third to first prizes. The third place prize of a $500 VISA gift card was won by Arlene David, the second prize 42” Plasma TV was won by Cheyenne Jocko and the first prize 2008 Yamaha Rhino was won by Milly Patinaude.
Area businesses sold tickets for the raffle too, including: Truckstop #9, Mitchell’s Store, Adam’s Marina, American Legion Post 1479, Wild Bill’s, Bank of Montreal and many others. Exempt HAVFD members and community members were also selling raffle tickets. The HAVFD can’t thank everyone enough for all their hard work and dedication to this worthy cause.
The 2008 Raffle committee consisted of Capt. Jason McDonald, Treasurer Mose McDonald, Firefighters Cody Two Bulls and Derek Comins. The HAVFD would like to thank the community and surrounding areas for their generosity that contributed to the success of this year’s raffle. It goes a long way towards taking care of the insurance expenses for the department.
