A Voice from the Eastern Door

Kana:takon School Prom “Hollywood Nights”

May 31, 2008, 7-11pm held at the St. Regis Recreation Center

A red carpet area greeted the students at the Kana:takon School prom on Saturday evening. A very tall doorman (Leonard Lazore) also greeted the students and guests; ready to take everyone’s name to make sure they were included on “the list.” Local radio celebrity Reen Cook was also on hand to “interview the stars” as they arrived at the big event.

Gold, black, and white balloons, and stars decorated the hall, as well as a movie marquee. Pictures of all the students in a film strip frame surrounded the refreshment tables.

Students danced all night to music videos. They were able to request songs as well. Everyone had a great time and Travis Cole stole the show with his dance moves.

Thank-you to the ladies who decorated the hall: Bridgette Lazore, Cindy Francis-Mitchell, Violet Sharrow and staff at the St. Regis Recreation Center (who also provided snacks). A big thank-you to Reen Cook for her skills at interviewing attendees, staff from ACFS especially Leonard Lazore, Danielle Oakes-Jacobs, and Wanda Thompson. Thank-you to Midnight Confetti for donating the balloon arch, which was used to take photos all evening. Thank you also to Nancy Oakes for taking photos.

Mrs. McCarthy, Ms. Levac, and Ms. Thompson at Kana:takon School worked hard to make this event a success for students. The Prom Committee also deserves to be recognized for their hard work making stars and picture frames, as well as the admission tickets, and they also participated in decorating the hall. There are a number of parents who helped to chaperone and take pictures as our stars arrived on the red carpet. If we have forgotten to say thank-you to anyone please forgive us but know that your help is very much appreciated. Thank you to all who helped make this such a memorable evening, and we will see you at next years’ prom!
