Indians Rally to Tie Against Peterborough

Akwesasne scores 3 in last 3 minutes to earn point

Lacrosse fans got a treat last Friday.

After struggling to score most of the game, the Akwesasne Indians scored 3 times, (4 depending on who you ask) to get a point out of the Peterborough Lakers.

The game was a defensive battle for the most part as both goalies were outstanding. After 2 periods the Lakers held a 4-3 lead. Scoring for Akwesasne was Jeremy Thompson with a pair and Mac Mitchell a goal of his own.

However, the Lakers jumped out to an early 6-3 lead in the third and looked like they were going to hold on to it. That was until the Kyle Buchanan show started.

Buchanan (Bucky to his teammates), scored two beauties while assisting on the tying goal by James Cathers all with less than 3 minutes to play.

The comeback appeared to be completed when recently returned forward Peter Jacobs from the NLL appeared to have put one behind Lakers goalie Ryan Masters. Unfortunately for Indians fans, the ref said that it did not cross the line and the game was forced into an overtime that provided no goals.

Following the comeback tie the Indians hit the road for Mississauga on Saturday night where they came out with a 13-7 win. Joe Tallis was in nets for his first win of the year while it was a different Thompson, Miles who lead the way offensively with 2 goals and 2 assists.

Jacobs and Buchanan each added 2 goals and an assist apiece, while Blake Kenny had a 3 assist effort. The other goal scorers were Justin Oakes with 2, Jeremy, Jerome and Ty Thompson, Mark Kirby and Cody Jacobs each had singles.

The Indians hit the road next weekend with games in St. Catharines on Saturday and Brampton on Sunday.
