Jocelyn Furnia Kelly - Athlete SRCS Class of 1982

Saturday, June 7th.

The SR Hall of Fame Committee is preparing for the 2008 Induction Ceremony on June 7, 2008.  There are a total of 4 teams and 6 individuals and one posthumous award to be given on that evening.  In the Salmon River High School, so many talented athletes have passed through these doors and shared their athletic skills.

There is no charge to attend the induction ceremony following the dinner.

• Jocelyn was a four year starter (1979-1982) on the SRCS Varsity Basketball Team, leading the Lady Shamrocks in scoring and assists, tallying 1140 career points. In 1981 she led the team to a 16-2 Division II Championship, Class C Title and the only Section X Basketball Championship SRCS has ever obtained.

• In 1982, with Jocelyn leading the way, the Lady Shamrocks won their 25th consecutive game, clinching the Division II title for the second consecutive year.

• Jocelyn was voted First Team All-Northern all four years and in 1982 she was unanimously voted Division II Player of the Year by Section X coaches. Coach Richard McLean stated that, “By many coaches’ standards, Jocelyn is the best guard in Northern New York. She is truly an all-around star player.”

• Not only did Jocelyn excel in basketball but she also received honors in swimming, receiving All-Northern status all six years swimming on the SRCS Varsity Swim Team.

Jocelyn was a Regents Scholarship winner and member of the National Honor Society at Salmon River. A Phi Beta Kappa Scholar, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from St. Lawrence University in 1986 with a B.A. in English.

• Jocelyn was a four-year starter on the Women’s Basketball Team at SLU, scoring 1140 career points (a record that stood for 10 years), and still holds records there for steals and assists. In 1983 she led the Lady Saints to their best season ever, gaining the #1 seed in the New York State Tournament and their first appearance in the NCAA tournament.

• Jocelyn was inducted into the St. Lawrence University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996.

• Jocelyn has been involved in the North Franklin youth sports program since 2000, coaching basketball and softball teams and directing the youth basketball program.
