Community members sought to interview St. Regis Mohawk School principal candidates

Salmon River Central Superintendent Jane Collins is requesting volunteers from the community to sit on a committee that will assist in hiring a new principal for the St. Regis Mohawk School.

The school’s current principal, Irving Papineau, will be retiring this year, effective September 1st.

“We are now in the process of hiring his replacement and there will be three committees that will interview the candidates,” Collins said.

The first committee will be comprised of staff members from the SRMS. The second group to interview the candidates will be the Mohawk Education Committee. The third committee will consist of parents and community members in the district. Collins is hoping to limit the committee to about 15 individuals.

The district has advertised the principal opening in newspapers from Buffalo to Plattsburgh and further south. They have now accepted a number of applications and six candidates will be selected from the pool to move on to the next step in the interview process.

Members of the community and parent committee will conduct interviews on June 2nd and June 3rd.

“Any community member or parents who would be interested in participating on the committee should contact me,” Collins said. She can be reached via telephone at 518-358-6610 or by email at jcollins@mail.fehb.org .

The principal selection is expected to be made at the June 23rd school board meeting.
