Cornwall teen dies in school stabbing

A 16-year-old Cornwall boy was brutally stabbed to death in front of his peers Monday at the T.R. Leger alternative high school.

Following an alleged scuffle outside the school on St. Lawrence College’s campus, the victim returned to class while the 17-year-old suspect allegedly fled the school. He returned a short time later and according to witnesses came screaming into a classroom where he chased the victim around the room with a large knife. After flipping desks over the victim was backed up against a wall and stabbed twice.

At least four other students in the classroom witnessed the incident, and two of them chased down the suspect outside and held him until police arrived.

Though students tried to keep the victim conscious, he died a short time later.

The suspect has been charged with 1st degree murder. A publication ban has been placed on court details, and both the victim’s and suspect’s names have been held per provisions of federal law.

T. R. Leger provides students with an alternative to mainstream high school. Their program is found on 37 campuses around Ontario, including Akwesasne.
