Massena Central Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team says Niawen Kowa to local Akwesasne businesses

Massena - Niawen Kowa say the athletes of the Massena Central Boys Varsity Lacrosse team for their new team jerseys.  Early in the ‘08 lacrosse season the team was informed they would be wearing the old modified jerseys for the season.  After the first scrimmage, they realized that wearing the old jerseys was not going to work out because they were too short and too tight for the majority of the players.  What to do?  They came up with the idea of fundraising to buy new jerseys.  Team Captain Ryan “Big Mac” McDonald picked up the initiative with support from Co-Captain Matt Thompson and Hakta Garrow.  Presenting the idea to Coach Chris Covell and Coach Jeff Slack earned support and the green light to pursue the fundraising idea.  The outcome was a big success and the boys are proudly wearing their new jerseys with their personally chosen player number. Coaches Covell and Slack along with Team Captains McDonald, Thompson, and Matt Hatch and all the team members offer their deepest appreciation to the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe, Akwesasne Seamless Gutters and 37 West Restaurant and Lounge for their generous donations in supporting their team. There are 13 Senior’s on the team who will be graduating this June.  For them, this initiative was their last joint effort as a team for the last sport they will play as a Massena Red Raider.  Thanks to the generosity of the three Akwesasne businesses they will go out in style.  The team also says a big “Thank You” to Brian Hatch at Ice Hawks for working diligently to get the jerseys to the athletes early in the season.  This years varsity lacrosse roster includes John Austin, Sterling Back, Tyson Back, Patrick Bulger, Josh Centrella, Robert Chambers, Dane Curry, Tim Doud, Taylor Elsner, Nolan Francis, Alexander “Hakta” Garrow, Matt Hatch, David Henrie, Jared Hollander, Trent Jacobs, Joe Laffin, Ryan McDonald, Ian McGregor, Tyson Oakes, Antonio “Zeppy” O’Geen, Josh Prashaw, Zach Prashaw, Lucas Purser, Chad Rush, Casey Simonds, Caleigh Tarbell, Matt Thompson and Daniel Tyo.
