Margaret T. Bell

Margaret T. Bell, age 93, of Burke, NY., died Sunday night, March 30, 2008, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone, NY. She had been a patient there since March 26. Born in Hogansburg, NY., October 25, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Paul K. and Mary A. Herne Tarbell. She attended local schools. On November 21, 1936, she was united in marriage to Wellington Bell at the St. Regis Catholic Church in St. Regis, Quebec. He predeceased her on October 14, 1961. For many years, Margaret helped her husband on the family farm in Burke. She was also Tax Collector for the Town of Burke for many years. She later worked as a seamstress for American Dry Cleaners in Malone. She then worked as a nurses aid at the Alice Hyde Hospital and Nursing Home in Malone, until she retired many years ago. She was a communicant of St. George’s Church and a member of the St. Regis Altar Rosary Society. She was a 4H Leader for many years in Burke and a member of the Home Bureau. She was a member of the Cornell Cooperative Extension Home Demonstration Group. She was also a member of the Burke Adult Center and St. Regis Mohawk Senior Citizens. She performed volunteer work for the Burke Adult Center and the St. George’s Parish Country Patch Store, She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, needlework, sewing, reading, and crossword puzzles. She was an avid baseball and a NASCAR fan, especially for Jeff Gordon.

Survivors include three sons and one daughter-in-law, Arnold Bell of Burke, Donald and Debbie Bell of Winthrop, NY., and Robert Bell and his companion, Michelle Dahler of Morrisonville, NY., two daughters and a son-in -law, Karen and Robert Boyer, Sr. of Burke, NY., and Georgia Bell of Constable, NY., by one sister, Mae Tarbell of Hogansburg. NY., seventeen grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Along with her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by one son, Thomas Bell, by three brothers, Mitchell, Clifford, and Harvey Tarbell, by four sisters; Katie Herne, Anna Beaubien, Charlotte Gadway and Sarah Tarbell, by one grandson, John Tryon, one great grandson, Isaac Paine and one daughter-in-law, Carol Ann Lawrence Bell.

Calling hours started Wednesday at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. George’s Church in Burke, NY., with the Rev. Frank Coryer officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery later in the Spring. Donations may be made in her memory to either the Burke Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department or to St. George’s Church. Arrangements are through the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service, Inc. of Malone, NY.
