Akwesasne names “Incredible Kids”

What’s so absolutely incredible? Kids, they’re absolutely incredible.  Once again the Akwesasne Coalition for Community Empowerment sponsored the national, letter-writing campaign urging adults to write about an absolutely incredible kid in their life.  Children need positive reinforcements in their lives.  The right words of encouragement can come at just the time a child needs them most – helping the child make better decisions, build self-esteem, and even be more compassionate and successful.

On Thursday, March 13, 2008 four Akwesasne Children were named as Absolutely Incredible Kid’s for each age category. Children could be nominated by anyone; winners were carefully selected according to the essays submitted.

The nominations for age category 2-6 were: Peter Martin, Kyren Jacob Lazore, Sakaronhiotane Thompson, and Damien Thompson. This year’s recipient went to Kyren Lazore nominated by Linda Grant.

Nominations for age category 7-9 were Gracey Martin, Kolten Oakes, Cameron Roundpoint, Sierra George and Jonas Gray. This year’s recipient is Jonas Gray nominated by his mom Ginger Gray.

Nominations for age category 10-12 were Dayna Green, Ronald Jacobs, Rachel Jacobs, Abigail Kelly and Rainkonnis Edwards. This year’s recipient is Ronald Jacobs nominated anonymously.

Nominations for age category 13 and up were Anna Kelly, Robert “Rocky” Francis Jr., Shyla Oakes, Tina Square and Javen Jacobs. This year’s recipient went to Tina Square nominated by Lori Square, Mom and Mindy Gray, Sister.

All nominees were given certificates recognizing them as Absolutely Incredible Kids as well as some nice prizes. A big Niawenkowa to guest speaker Mary Brown from Girl Scouts of America and all the Coalition Members for putting this event together. A special Niawen to Danielle Oakes for your donation.
