A Voice from the Eastern Door

Free yoga classes at St. Regis Recreation still open

The St. Regis Recreation is hosting and sponsoring a twice-weekly yoga class for all community members.

The first class was held in January and a group of regulars as well as weekly newcomers have been attending the class every Monday and Friday.

Catherine Lelievre teaches the Hatha style of yoga that she learned at the Satnam yoga studio in Cornwall.

The class is casual and informal, as well as free to all participants. New members are encouraged to come anytime and jump into the routine. The class is held every Monday and Friday at 5 p.m.

At the request of the participants a few Pilates moves are also incorporated into the hour-long session.

The entire class is a go-at-your-own-pace style. All positions and moves are only as hard as the participant makes it for themselves.

The class has had elders and children also attend and they are welcome anytime.

Yoga is known to be a well-rounded form of exercise that just about anyone can do.

While yoga is known for certain to increase strength and flexibility, some studies have also shown benefits to people with high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, and carpal tunnel syndrome.
