A Voice from the Eastern Door
After a disappointing 6-1-league loss to Potsdam, the number one team in the state, the Salmon River boys’ varsity hockey team responded with a decisive win over New Hartford and a tie with Rome Free Academy.
Potsdam, 14-1-0, showed the home crowd why they are ranked number one in New York State with a fast, hard hitting, and disciplined game of hockey. The Shamrocks did not have their best game against Potsdam and avoided a shutout with Wishe David scoring late in the third period.
Friday night the Shamrocks came back with a vengeance and rocked New Hartford 7-0. It was big night for Ty Thompson and Marc Plante with two goals and four assists each. Creek Lewis had a hat trick and two assists, Bo Adams had two assists and Stevie Adams had one assist. Sonny Lighting shinned in nets with a 26 save shutout. Additionally, because of injuries, Ross Cree has taken on the responsibility and unselfishly dressed as back up goaltender.
Saturday afternoon was a hard fought battle against a fast, physical team.
RFA scored two unanswered goals in the first period. Hank Delisle scored to start off the second period with assists going to Tehawerahkwatha Herne and Kyle Roundpoint. Rome also picked up their third goal in the second period. Salmon dominated the third and picked up two more goals for the tie. Chris Lewis scored with help from defensemen Wishe David and Bo Adams. Owen Mitchell tied it up with assists going to Ryan Gould and Skaron Mayo. The third period was followed by a five minute overtime that Salmon controlled but was unable to score. Sonny Lighting looked sharp in nets with 26 saves. The boys looked good over the weekend and may be on the way to a solid end of the season run.
