A Voice from the Eastern Door
Salmon River Central’s record-breaking boys hockey coach William Plante has been put on administrative leave from his coaching duties, Superintendent Jane Collins confirmed.
“Mr. Plante is on leave from coaching,” she said. “I am unable to comment as to any
further details.”
School board member Stacy Adams said the details are not being made public and Plante’s leave is indefinite, pending completion of an investigation.
Parents and students have complained in the past of Plante’s harsh locker room style, but officials would not confirm nor deny rumors that he had been recently recorded yelling at the team inappropriately.
Plante has taken the team to several state championships and he currently holds the state record for most wins by a coach in the sport of hockey.
Assistant Coach Tim Cook has stepped up to coach the team for now, with former Shamrock Garrett Cree assisting.
Plante did not immediately respond to Indian Time’s request for an interview or comment.
