A Voice from the Eastern Door
This past Sunday the Akwesasne Jr. Indians were busy at the draft table for the upcoming season. During the Midget Priority draft they selected from Kahnawake, Tye Stacey, a 5’11 180 pound goaltender, also selected in the midget draft was Thor Grant a product of Cornwall minor lacrosse. Thor is the type of kid that may be able to adapt to the grinds of Jr. A lacrosse.
Also over the weekend the Jr. A council hosted the dispersal draft of the now defunct Ottawa Titans players. The Indians with the 2nd pick from a trade with Orangeville picked high powered offensive player Kyle Buchanan. With the 4th pick through trade with St. Catharines the Indians picked up Scott Cowie. With the Indians original 6th pick they pick up big defensive player Brad Barber. With the 9th pick from trade with Kitchener the Indians selected Blake Kenny, and with the 11th pick they received from Burlington, the Indians selected Jason Crook. In all the Indians added depth to the team, with some players willing to learn and help set standards from the will to work hard and trust in the coach’s philosophy.
