A Voice from the Eastern Door
Students at the Ahkwesahsne Mohawk School have been studying new techniques for creating art. The future budding artists are doing quite well. Mrs. Ruth Seymour, art teacher, is very proud of the students. She displays their work in the hallways for everyone to admire.
The grade 3-6 students studied the first two elements of art, line and shape. The line designs exhibit demonstrates the students understanding of vertical, horizontal, and diagonal lines. The students combined a variety of lines to create interesting designs.
The line is the movement of dots. Pointillism is a technique in which small dots create a picture. Students had an opportunity to create artwork using tempera paint and Q-tips.
The second art element, shape, was introduced because lines form the outlines of shapes. The students manipulated geometric figures to create original shape designs. The designs were then traced and colored with coloring pencils.
Using construction paper, the students created positive negative designs. Two images were created with each shape, the positive one that outlines the design and the negative one that is the background.
In order to better understand this, you would have to look at the students artwork.
