The Akwesasne girls had their chances but a stingy Gloucester defense and turnovers gave them a 2-1 loss last weekend at the Cornwall Civic Complex. They had big chances though. Early in the game Jenna Oakes and Emily Eldridge had a breakaway but the loose puck bounced around in the crease before Gloucester goalie Hailey Nasula batted it away. A minute into the second period Oakes had another big chance to score as she picked apart the Gloucester defense but her shot went wide. Akwesasne went...

The game started off flying with the Chiefs hitting the Ice Pigs net right off the opening faceoff. Goalie Jake Dumas was called on to make big saves. In one instance he was caught out of position a...
The Akwesasne Chiefs will not play hockey this season and may not come back in the future. Phil DeFranco, who had been involved with the team said they didn’t get enough players for a full roster. He deferred further comment to Stuart Oberman, who was the team’s owner. Oberman did not return phone calls. DeFranco added that canceling the season was also to not add to their debts. The team’s website, akwesasnechiefs.com, makes no mention of the season being canceled. The Chiefs was a junior team for ages 16 to 20. DeFranco said he feels they...
