The North Franklin Shamrocks travelled to western New York a couple weekends ago and came home champions. They played teams from all over New York State at Amherst's North Town Center in Buffalo, NY. The tournament started on Friday, March 17, 2017 with the Shamrocks taking on Pelham and picking up the win, 3-1. The Potsdam Icestorm 16U Girls Hockey team won the New York State Tier 2 Hockey Championships held in Buffalo on March 3-5, 2017. They will now represent New York State at the USA Hockey National Championships to be held in Troy, Michigan on April 6-10, 2017. After a hard-fought battle against the Beekmantown Eagles that ended in double overtime, the Salmon River Shamrocks boys hockey season came an end just shy of the state Final Four. After two games that were decided by a single goal, the Massena boys varsity hockey team will head to the state semi-finals. On Feb. 27, they defeated Canton 1-0 for their sixth consecutive Section 10 Division I title. The Wayne Castor Fan Appreciation Award honors a man who exemplified team spirit and good sportsmanship in the role of a parent. This award was created twelve years ago to honor a father who loved to watch his children, and his nieces and nephews play sports at Salmon River and throughout the North Country.
