(September 8, 2017) OTTAWA, ON - The best up-and-coming box lacrosse players will get the opportunity to showcase their talent this fall with the Canadian Lacrosse Association and Iroquois Nationals announcing that they will face-off in a U17 game as part of the 2017 Heritage Cup in Hamilton, Ontario on October 21, 2017. Boys Varsity Football The varsity football squadron dropped a 36-12 contest to Gouverneur, in a matchup of two teams that went undefeated during last year's regular season. Montana Pierce rushed 27 times for 146 yards and scored one touchdown. Gouverneur's Connor Fenlong returned the opening kickoff 34 yards to the Massena 49 yard line. The St. Regis Braves finished in fourth place in the Canadian Lacrosse Association President’s Cup. The Braves ended the series with a 5-4 record, tied with the Kahnawake Mohawks. The St. Albert Miners narrowly edged the Six Nations Rivermen for the President’s Cup by a 7-6 final score. The Braves’ fourth victory of the series was on Aug. 30 against the Nova Scotia Privateers, a 16-5 final score. Workers and families of the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort get together twice a week for a few laughs. The AMCR Associate Kickball League meets every Monday and Thursday at the American Legion in Hogansburg. The 2017 season ended last week in dramatic fashion and almost in pitch darkness. Last weekend I'd Tap That and War Party played till dusk. The game was tied 9-9 at the bottom of the sixth inning, but at dusk, I'd Tap That broke it open with four runs in the top of the seventh to hold onto the win. SUNY Potsdam will host the Fitter & Faster swimming clinic on Saturday, August 26 at Maxcy Hall Pool. Two-time U.S. Olympian Chloe Sutton will lead instruction. Two of Akwesasne’s hometown teams went head-to-head in Three Nations Senior B Lacrosse action, with the St. Regis Braves coming out on top in a best-of-three series. The Braves won two-games-to-none over the Snake Island Muskies at Massena Arena on July 31 and Aug. 3. Chanel Thompson from Akwesasne (middle row, center) played with the HTI (Hockey Training Institute – Mulmur, Ontario) team 16U in the Boston Beantown Hockey Showcase tournament July 28-30th.
