They completed in the Warrior Game tournament in Cattaraugus with 12 runners and 2 goalies. This team was put together by the young men themselves in a determination to continue playing lacrosse together through the winter. After earning wins on the ice rink and the basketball court, Massena had games for the second time this season canceled due to severe weather. Games slated for Jan. 5 and 6 were canceled as a winter storm worked its way up the East Coast. The Massena Raiders varsity boys hockey Mark Tyo tournament was canceled, along with a girls hockey road game in Central New York. The girls had away and home games against Gloucester 3. The girls had a slow start on Saturday in Gloucester and did not truly find their groove. With a minute remaining in the first period, Gloucester 3 scored to take the lead. The team defeated Lebanon, N.H. 8-2 for the consolation prize at the Northfield, Vt. tourney on Dec. 29. The Massena Raiders varsity hockey, basketball and wrestling teams had a tough week with losses to St. Lawrence Central, Canton and Potsdam. On Dec. 5, the varsity girl’s basketball squadron lost to visiting SLC by just one point in overtime. The Massena girls varsity hockey and boys basketball seasons are officially underway. The hockey team narrowly dropped their opener to Oswego and the basketball squad squeezed past Northeast Clinton by just a single point for their first win. The Lanark County Condors girls visited the Anowarako:wa Arena last week and despite having only nine skaters they put up a big effort against the Akwesasne Wild. But the hosts pushed their unbeaten streak to seven games with a 5-1 win in National Capital Women's Hockey League play. It was a bad day for two of Malone's Peewee teams. Last weekend at Salmon River the Peewee Green team from Malone were blanked 12-0 by the NF Shamrocks.
