The Massena Lady Raiders softball team on Friday, May 17 at their last 2019 regular season home game recognized several members who will graduate this year. I went with my family to see the new lacrosse movie "The Grizzlies" in Ottawa a few weeks ago. It is a true story of a Native community in Nunavut and their introduction to our game. The young Native actors were very natural and believable in their roles. They were funny too. The movie addressed issues affecting so many of our young teens – suicide, drugs and alcohol, poverty, teen pregnancy, family dysfunction. The hosts started off with two quick goals before the game was four minutes old from Sekawnee Baker and Tarylie Thompson. Salmon and hosts Massena played their regular season closer against each other on Friday, May 17 with the 'Rocks taking a 17-16 overtime win. Massena has a first-round bye. The Salmon River Shamrocks varsity boys lacrosse squadron played their final home game of the season during a week where four other Massena and Salmon lax contests were won by just a single goal. They broke a stalemate with two runs in the third inning, then sent home two more runners in the fourth inning and two more in the sixth.
