The Watertown Daily Times has applauded Salmon River and Massena athletes as members of their 2019-20 Times All-North Teams. Their First Team includes Salmon River forward Tim Cook Jr. He is a forward who scored 19 goals with 15 assists this past season. “Tim was one of the best two-way players I’ve ever coached. In Division II, which includes Salmon River, Tim Cook Jr., Alex Oakes and Ian French were named Section 10 Athletes of Distinction. Massena has been denied a chance to continue in state playoffs now that the New York Public High School Athletic Association has canceled all winter championships. The Raiders had been waiting to hear if “indefinite postponement” of the remainder of post-season could ultimately reverse in their favor. Submitted by Dan Garrow The St. Lawrence Steel 19U Girls Hockey Team won the New York State Hockey Championships title on Sunday March 8, 2020 in Buffalo. They will now represent New York State in the USA Hockey National Championships to be held in West Chester, Pennsylvania (20 miles from Philadelphia) on April 2 – 6, 2020. The club finished their round robin series earlier this week against the NGS Braves with a hard fought shutout. The final score was 55-48. In the boys competition, Massena got out to a 17-7 lead after the first quarter and increased that to 26-18 at the half. The Shamrocks boys contingent started off the post-season with a home win over Potsdam in Fort Covington on Tuesday, Feb. 18. The ‘Rocks rallied late in the game to squeeze by the Sandstoners 47-46.
