WAHTA — Collapsing cranberry prices have forced the Wahta Mohawks to close its Iroquois Cranberry Growers operation. In a press release to the community on April 18, economic development officer Lance DeCaire announced “with regret,” the cessation of the 45-plus-year-old business effective immediately. “High cranberry prices encouraged more production across North America until supply outstripped demand. Flashback to when it happened I wish I knew…. • That the assault was not my fault. • That I wouldn’t be judged by family and friends, others. • How to drink responsibly and know my limits. • To trust my instincts. • To stay and leave with the same group of friends while at a party or the bar. • How to report it as soon as possible so that it reduces the chances of that person assaulting someone else. • But most importantly I wish I knew how to love and respect myself. What I know now…. • The effects of Sexual Assault has on one’s self; physic...

Americans have recognized Earth Day as an annual celebration of clean air, land and water since 1970. But this year, the nationally recognized day seems like more of a warning than a celebration - and people are speaking up on behalf of the Earth. The hashtag #IfOnlyTheEarthCouldSpeak started trending on Twitter on Tuesday (April 18, 2017), four days before Earth Day and the coinciding March for Science protest to be held in Washington D.C. on Saturday, April 22, 2017 to fight anti-science in...

# 4 Plant a Tree It might sound like a bit of a cliché, but planting trees is by far one of the most important gifts we can give back to the planet and to ourselves. Global warming is caused by a buildup of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere (such as carbon dioxide and methane), which traps heat on the planet. But trees have the ability to suck up carbon dioxide, which is why the Amazon and other forests are so important. If every person on the planet plants one tree, that amounts to nearly 7 billion new carbon sponges. You can plant a tree...
# 2 Do a Home Energy Audit Not everyone has their own home, but if you do, nothing tells the planet “I love you” more than a home energy audit. Since most of the world is still powered by fossil fuels, that means your home is too, and if energy is pouring out of it because of poor construction, you are inadvertently releasing unnecessary greenhouse gases into our atmosphere. Don’t feel guilty about it because it’s not your fault, but you can make a difference by calling up a certified auditing company to audit your home. They will tell you exa...
