Doors open at 6:00am where breakfast will be sold for $5 (pancakes, eggs, bacon, homefries, juice and coffee). The Mohawk Auction and Jail-n-Bail begins at 8:00am. (Fort Covington, NY) — The “Believe Campaign” has kicked off once again in Salmon River CSD. From now until December 15, 2017, for every letter to Santa that is received Macy’s Department store will donate $1 to Make-a-Wish Foundation, up to a million dollars. Last year, Salmon River staff, students and community raised over $2,600. Participants can hand-write or type their letter and return it to the mailboxes at school, or to a teacher. Running Strong is giving away fifty $10,000 grants over five years to jumpstart the dreams of American Indian youth. Over the past three years, we’ve given out grants to thirty incredible Native young people and witnessed their dreams come to life. The annual Spirit of Christmas was held from December 1st to December 3rd, at the Kawehnoke Recreation. This annual event helps to raise money for the Kawehnoke Recreation, with community member and organizations donating items to be raffled off to some lucky winners at the end of the event. On Wednesday November 29th, the Diabetes Center for Excellence held their very own Holistic Health and Diabetes Care Event from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. (December 1, 2017) Two new Akwesasne Mohawk Police constables graduated from the Ontario Police College on November 30th this past week in Aylmer, Ontario. The officers are Cst. Christian Zimmer and Cst. Brier Jonathan after spending three months at the Ontario Police College completing the Basic Constable program. The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service donated $350 to the Akwesasne Cancer Support Group. The donation was presented to Sheila Oakes and Kenny Oakes on Friday, December 1, 2017 – World AIDS Day, also known as Red Ribbon day.
