A benefit lacrosse tournament was held Dec. 6 at Kana:takon School to raise money for the Kanienkehaka Krunch JV team, which is traveling to Tampa, Florida to compete in the Dick’s Tournament of Champions on January 2-4, 2009. Last Friday was an evening of another rededication at the Tom C. Cavanaugh Ice Arena at Salmon River Central School. The game between Gates Chili and Salmon River took place following the ceremony. The SRC band was present as they were on Dec. 2nd when the girls hockey team played their home opener and held a rededication ceremony as well. On Sunday, Dec. 14, the Akwesasne Soaring Eagles held its first seasonal benefit volleyball tournament named the Santa Smash. There were three divisions for different ages. It is a combined effort between the Salmon River Athletic Hall of Fame and the Akwesasne Jreck Subs. Each month, a female and male athlete will be selected by their coach.
